May Goals Completed

May was the last month of serious school time constraints so those were the major goals. Over the summer the goals will be much less time-dependent.

Goals completed this month

Blog

  • Continue to monetize the blog. There will be posts on how I am working on monetizing the blog in the future!
  • Have over 1,000 followers. There are currently about 1,200. Very exciting!

School

  • Finish the current courses. Finally finished them :’)
  • Hear back from the university on my application. You can read about the school’s response here!
  • Get ready for finals and complete as soon as possible. Currently working on studying for the finals, but have to wait to complete the tests.

Fitness

  • Start lifting. It’s so satisfying to lift and now my favourite workout. My current weightlifting routine is Ashley Conrad’s 21 Day Clutch but only the lifting part.
  • Begin running outside. It’s so different?! It’s not my favourite but it’s good to get outside and fresh air and enjoy the weather.
  • More yoga!! I HAVE NOT BEEN STRETCHING. But now that it’s warmer it’s much easier to stretch since muscles are not constantly cold.

Fun and random

  • Make a summer bucket list so I won’t be too bored. The Summer Bucket List can be found here!
  • Start drawing more. I have drawn twice (I think???) but that’s much more than before so I’m looking forward to drawing more and improving my technique.

This is also the 100th post on the blog!! Thank you for following everyone!

18 Notes To Myself For My 18th Birthday

Tomorrow is my 18th birthday (the Internet keeps pointing out how it’s Aries season, also my fourth Friday The 13th birthday) since that is often considered the start of adulthood this post will be on a note to my future self going through adult life, mixed with “things I’ve learnt so far”.

To Peri

  1. Be friendly! People are always way less friendly than you’re expecting and it’s nice to see people who are genuinely friendly.
  2. Consistently doing things to work towards goals is key and makes them easier to achieve. Make working towards goals part of your everyday habits.
  3. Tea solves all problems, also smoothies.
  4. And good music. Even if it’s what might be considered weird.
  5. Hard workouts are satisfying and it also correlates with doing small steps towards goals everyday.
  6. Always push yourself because you’re always better than you think.
  7. Draw lots!
  8. And take picture to savour every beautiful things in the moment.
  9. Pet cuddles are great but cats might try to kill you haha.
  10. Fairy lights need to be everywhere possible.
  11. Reading isn’t too bad if you’re reading something you enjoy.
  12. Drink lots of water then drink even more because you’re probably not hydrated enough.
  13. To pre-teen Peri, you didn’t make it through without acting like a teenager at all.
  14. But also, 18 doesn’t magically make you an adult.
  15. Doing schoolwork is better than being bored. And nothing good comes from procrastinating.
  16. The outdoors is your friend but mosquitoes aren’t. Otherwise it’s fine.
  17. Good clothes make you very happy.
  18. And always do your best.

This post felt very cheesy. 😂 I’m curious, do you all like having big birthday celebrations or do you keep it lowkey? What kinda of things do you do for your birthday?

P.S. It’s Peri

February Goals Completed

It’s March! Made it through February and it’s one step closer to spring. There wasn’t a huge amount of goals completed this month but the ones I did complete were pretty major.

Goals completed this month

Blog

  • Hit 1,000 followers. There are now over 1,000 followers on the blog and it’s crazy! New goal 2,000?! That might be a bit high but it’s going to happen.
  • Get my own domain and site. The blog move was a little tedious, trying to figure all of the bugs and switching all the links over, but now the blog has a permanent home.
  • Set up ads. You may have noticed them on the blog, adding them will help with paying for university!
  • Post more regularly on Instagram. You can see my posts here!
  • Start the Newsletter back up. It is a work in progress but the sign-up page is back. Sign up for future newsletters here!

School

  • Get everything caught up. Somehow I was a term behind in math and several ahead in my other courses?? A side effect of being homeschooled. I finished my last math courses, started the new one and have caught up there. I’m also almost done half of my courses for this year.
  • It’s not really school related but I finished reading Tom Sawyer which I was reading digitally and kept forgetting about.
  • Come up with some backup plans in case I do not get into university. I talk about the process here.

Fun and random

It was a very productive month for the blog and thank you, everyone, for reading and helping the blog grow! What are some of your goals for March?

Motivation To Do Schoolwork In Grade 12

The motivation for doing schoolwork can be so hard, especially during the winter when the days a dreary and the last thing you want to do is school.

Grade 11 vs 12 motivation

Last year, motivation was pretty low around this time of year since it was post-winter break and everything seems dull until spring starts to pop up. This year, I feel pretty highly motivated to get school done, so much so I’ve been getting done a week’s worth of work in a couple days.

Highly motivated in grade 12

I think the motivation to get schoolwork done gets easier when there’s an end in sight and once I’m done this grade it’ll be done for high school. In previous years I have not taken summers off, instead, I took off a few days here and there when I felt like it. That can be very good for when you feel like you really can’t do schoolwork and need a break. But, having a set “I will be done school” point helps to motivate to get to that point. I’m trying to have a combination of both, do as much school as I can while I’m feeling super motivated then taking a few days off ( weekends or days when I’m busy doing other things ) with the end point of whenever all of my courses are finished. The end feels close enough that I’m trying my best to get to that point as soon as I can with still learning everything. The downside of the days when I get lots of schoolwork done is there is sometimes a “crash” day where my brain is mush, that’s when it should be a break or an easier work day. Overall, I’m just looking forward to having all of the work done and that’s motivation enough to keep going.

How do you keep motivated during these dull months?

January Goals Completed

One of my 2018 goals was to get things done and actually complete lots of goals. It’s only one month into 2018 and I feel like I’ve already done some conquering!

Goals completed this month

Blog

  • Post more on the blog and get views up. There have been over 1,000 views this month on the blog! Thank you, everyone, for helping with this one! And we’re getting very close to 1,000 followers.

School

  • Finish transcripts and course descriptions. You can read about it here and here.
  • Take the SATs. Technically I did this in December but I posted about it not that long ago.
  • Send in my university application. There are still a few extracurricular forms to fill out but otherwise, it’s done!

“Adulting”

  • Get driver’s license. I finished the studying for the first part of a driver’s license in Ontario, now I just need to go and take the test.

Fun and random

It’s been a productive month and I’m quite happy with that. Now I’ll have to make more goals so I still have ones to work on throughout the rest of the year.

Goals Of 2018

Happy New Year, everyone! As I had said last year, I LOVE NEW YEARS GOALS! Sometimes they stress me out a bit, but I find it so pleasing when I’ve completed goals, and writing them down helps set the direction for where I want to go.

This year and this year’s motto

I have a lot of goals this year, big and small, and I think it’ll be a bit of a crazy one and definitely different from others, but I’m excited! Every year I choose a one-word motto to basically sum up the goals or overall what I’m going for in the next year. This year is going to be “contrast” or a not one-word motto of “get things done”. Work hard, but take breaks.

2018 goals

I break the goals down into different categories of my life to keep them more organized and simplified. These are a few of my major goals:

School

  • Finish making transcripts for my courses to send to universities.
  • Complete uni application.
  • Get into the school of choice!
  • Finish off all of my high school courses!

Blog

  • Get blog to 1,000 followers!
  • Get blog to make money to help out with uni costs.
  • Post more frequently.

Health and fitness

  • Run a half marathon, if I’m feeling crazy. Or a 10k is much more reasonable.
  • Do more ab and upper body workouts!
  • Try other forms of exercise and sports.
  • More yoga and stretching.

Fun and creativity

  • Work on art more.
  • And photography.
  • Travel if there are opportunities to.
  • Make a reading list and read more.

“Adulting”

  • Get driver’s license.
  • Budget and learn more personal finance.

What are some of your major goals this year? Hope everyone has an amazing 2018!!

Balance + Motivation

One of my words for 2017 is “balance”. Balance in schoolwork, social life, mood (LOL??), workouts, food, just balance in everything.

Motivation

As a homeschooler, I find one of the problems is motivation and actually getting schoolwork done ( #homeschoolproblems ). You have to be pretty self-driven especially if you take a lot of the control over your own work and curriculum. There isn’t really the peer pressure to get things done, or time limits, you can just stay in bed all day and never have to get out. It isn’t a bad thing but I find I need to be doing stuff, to actually get out of bed and get dressed and leave the house, in order to stay sane ( slight exaggeration ), so it’s super important to me to try to stay motivated and get things done, that’s where balance comes in.

Balance

I am really bad at balance. Like really bad. I procrastinated most of my schoolwork last year until the last month before summer break and got it all done then. I was highly motivated because it was almost the summer, and I couldn’t get summer break without having done any work. Learning doesn’t really work that way, though, and I’m thinking I should change my ways of binge learning. No more ( or at least less ) procrastinating, and no more time spent in these “down”, no motivation periods.

Balance in being social

There are times when I will barely be home from all the things going on, then there are times when I won’t leave the house for about a week straight. I would really like to change this because those weeks when I don’t leave the house can become very boring and the others very overwhelming.

Balance in schoolwork per day

When I do schoolwork, I usually do it after breakfast then right up to when I go to bed with taking breaks for tea, dance and running. But then I get burnt out because that’s all I do all day.

Balance in workouts

I often don’t really take days off of working out, except one day I do not run and have about 2 hours worth of dance class. Usually, I don’t take breaks just because I don’t know what else to do.

The plan

First and foremost – get motivation, and for it to be constant motivation instead of the sudden spikes of heavy motivation. I’m not quite sure what that would be to me, and I’m going to work on finding out what is motivating. Currently, I know that stretching after a tough run is motivating because I love stretching and it’s so relaxing, it’s like a reward once the workout is over. And in the morning if I make a little sweet potato hash that motivates me to get up and get cooking.

Schoolwork balance

I need to set certain times for myself that I should be working, like do schoolwork for a bit in the morning then lunch break, and for all the afternoon plus workout break, then that’s it for the day so it’s not too much. Oh, hey I just set my schedule right there! Then I need to take long-term breaks as well, like actually not doing things on the weekend. Now I’ll just need to find things to do in the breaks.

Workout balance

One word – yoga. Balance is the whole point of yoga, isn’t it? Or something along those lines. Yoga is not as strenuous as always running, and it’s stretching which I love!

Social balance

This can be hard because my friends who go to school often can only get together when there’s time off of school, so it all tends to be at around the same time. But I will try to spread out things and keep a little busy all the time!

Officially getting back to school tomorrow so more posts on homeschooling are coming soon! Also, do other homeschoolers struggle with balance, too? What keeps you balanced? And what do you do in your break time?

Active Outfits (Plus Forever 21 Haul-ish)

First fashion post, yay!! I love fashion so much especially fitness fashion. It’s so colourful and crazy and fun! It’s also really motivating when you’re working out to be in an outfit that makes you feel good about yourself and that’s bright and colourful and makes you feel happy, or something that you’re excited to put on. Between dance and running and things, I tend to be in workout wear quite a bit so it’s something that I love to buy because it gets used a lot. OK let’s get on to see what I got! I apologise for the wrinkliness ( new word! ) it wouldn’t flatten out nicely, but I’ll work on better clothing photography for future posts.

I am IN LOVE with these leggings! They’re so crazy and make me very happy.

These are from like 3 years ago so I have no idea where they’re from but this is one of my fav outfits!

Everything from Forever 21 I just bought on their Boxing Day sale with my Christmas money, super happy about that because I got so much stuff for under $150! Forever 21, Old Navy, Ardene, Marshalls and Winners are all my favourite places for reasonably priced activewear that looks good. And speaking of that I should probably go for a run!

Looking Back

Sometimes I can be a bit too sentimental and it seems so old fashioned or melancholy but it’s kind of nice to look back on the year and see what happened since it felt like it flew by with nothing happening.

January

I’m not going to sugarcoat it, January was not the best. Instead of taking 2 months off of school in the summer I took 1 the previous summer and then half of December off and half of January. After Christmas was over I was very bored, there weren’t that many people I could talk to, I wasn’t pushing myself to do my best in anything, I wouldn’t get tired because I was only taking a little walk for my exercise and I need more than that. But in February I worked to fix all that!

February

I tried to surround myself with people I had met and tried to make new friends online, it was pretty successful and I met lots of great people and would call with 3 of them every day which really helped me get to know them and others! During the day I would wake up super late because of being on calls all night oops LOL, and do school, dance and walk. Not a lot of change from now. For school I did Math U See as always, then some French videos off of YouTube which helped me learn to pronounce things but didn’t really work with me for learning words, I worked on Khan Academy’s computer programming a lot then, too.

March

This was when I started to really journal so this is more documented! I remember just being really bored in March, baking a lot because I wasn’t sure what else to do lol, I started digitally drawing. School was pretty much the same as in February.

April

The first week in April was a dance competition and I got to help out at some of the dance classes while others were at the competition. I got my haircut for the first time in 5 years. And it was my birthday, all I can really remember from my birthday is making muffins at 3 am for breakfast, otherwise, I didn’t know what to do for it. And I got braces, can’t forget that! I started to feel more motivated in school so I did Georgia Public Broadcasting’s chemistry course and Khan Acdemy’s biology.

May

More dance competitions, more drawing, I talked to someone who was going to school for illustrations and decided that I wanted to work on that more. Every day in May I did at least 200 squats, which was crazy but it really built strength fast! Took lots of pictures of spring showers, got lots of school done, assisted with a dance class for a bit, made a contentment plan, got my first phone, walked outside and explored the area a lot. In May I was pretty motivated since spring had arrived and it would soon be summer! It was a good new start from the winter.

From a walk.

June

June was the end of dance classes for summer, there was an end of year recital and my company choreographed a dance together for it, I started to run a tiny bit, baked lots, started my hummus obsession, tried to finish up all the school I had procrastinated before it was summer break, put up our trampoline for the summer and got really sunburnt and that was probably the most I was outside all summer. No one ever talks about how hard it is to put a trampoline together, but it’s really hard. A bunch of my friends started calling every night. I decided that I liked Troye Sivan’s music.

A sunrise before I had gone to bed one very late night.

July

Finished all the school that needed to be done before the break. Started summer break!! Basically, all I did in July was stay up for most of the night with my friends LOL which was so much fun and I definitely do not regret! That also sparked my newfound love for coffee in order to actually stay awake during the day.

More super late night sunrise.

Coffee and a half eaten black bean brownie.

August

The same thing as July!! But at the end of August, I had Summer Dance that is all afternoon spent at the studio learning routines, strength and conditioning, stretching, it’s one of my favourite parts of summer! I got to go see some world class theatre, as well. I also discovered the TV show Glee which I was really late to but now I love it. And dyed my hair purple!

Random pics.

Hair dye mess.

September

I got to see the journals of the author of my favourite book series Anne Of Green Gables which was such a cool experience and these particular journals were very exciting with stories of proposals. It always inspired me to journals more. Got them bottom half of my braces, which hurt a lot more than the tops. My one cat ran away for 11 days and we got a call from a couple who he had decided to go stay with, we got the cat back now. Started working on really running and strength building, again. And also went back to doing school and was highly motivated so got lots done. Dance started again, as well. Started to question if I should continue homeschooling. More posts on this later!! I did a little work with my dad. Fewer calls happened as friends went back to school and started to get busy. It was a new start to the school year and I was highly motivated to get as much school as possible done! Added in other subjects that I was interested in like Khan’s Wi-Phi Wireless Philosophy and Khan’s health course.

A picture of Lucy Maude Montgomery in her journal.

October

My friends and I decided to put on an awards show, which we’re now doing for every season. We all suggest categories that there will be awards in, then nominate 3 of us for the award and make polls online. Everyone votes between a couple dedicated voting days, then two people “host” the awards and make a YouTube video together of them announcing who has won. I was one of the hosts for the first one and it took quite awhile to come up with everything so most of my time that wasn’t spent working out, dancing, or doing school, was spent on the videos and the rest of the awards for a good 2-3 weeks of October. It was also Canadian Thanksgiving so there was lots of cooking and visiting family.

Pumpkins!

First snow!

November

By November a lot of my motivation from before had faded, and I started to realise how many things need to be changed to work better for me. Most of November was spent researching universities, careers, laying out pros and cons to going to school, trying to figure out what needs to be changed here, all things I’m still trying to figure out and I will definitely write more on these!

Fresh apples.

Corn maze.

Troye Sivan concert!

December

Still trying to figure out how things need to be changed, more university research, less motivation for school and everything. Then Christmas! See Christmas 2016. Then it brings us to the end of the year and now!
Christmas market.

Snowy mornings.

Cardinal visiting.

Not a tonne happened in 2016 which isn’t really a bad thing! What were some of the highlights of your 2016?
