Braces Off!

I just got my braces off and I’m very excited!

The journey to nice teeth

I got braces in the spring of 2016 to correct a bad underbite and crooked teeth. At the time I didn’t think they were that bad but, looking back, it was hard to brush all of the teeth and the top and bottom didn’t even meet up so that couldn’t have been good.

The day the braces were put on.

Thankfully, my teeth moved quickly and the whole experience was not as bad as I was expecting since the first orthodontist I went to recommended that I have jaw surgery to fix the underbite but, I went to another orthodontist and they said it could be fixed with braces and elastics.

When they were first put on it didn’t actually hurt that much, I had heard that it was very hard to eat once they were first put on, but I didn’t find that. It was later on that was more painfully. If you take some pain relievers just before your visit it helps so much, eating can still be difficult since the teeth will be delicate, but it does help a lot. Usually, the pain only lasted for 3 days right after the adjustment, at most, so it was durable.

Getting them off!

I ended up having them for 3 months longer than they had predicted but so much time had already been put in, the 3 months did not feel too long. I went in for an appointment the week before to have them double check that everything was good to go to take the braces off. The next week was removal day! They took all of the brackets and wire off in one fell swoop, then the rest of the appointment was spent taking off the glue and polishing. It took a little over an hour but finally, they were done and my teeth free!

They’re gone!

It didn’t really sink in until after getting home that they were off, then I was very excited, plus the orthodontist gave me a nice mug and a chocolate bar so I was very happy.

The next day I had to go back to get the retainers which really took down the excitement of nice teeth since they were slightly painful and it meant more appliances on my teeth again. On the bottom row, they put a permanent retainer wire and for both the bottom and top I now have plastic retainers that are like the clear plastic braces.

A nice photo of plastic braces from Google.

Since my teeth moved so fast and easily I have to wear the plastic retainers as much as possible to keep everything in place, but it’ll be worth it since most of the effort has already been put in.

Getting braces off is another step to conquering my 2018 goals and I’m so glad they’re off!

Realistic Dream House

I love Pinterest and I’m probably very addicted to it. One of my favourite boards is my house one where I have been saving photos and creating an imaginary dream home that is hopefully not too crazy and more realistic.

Imaginary home tour

Navy blue, shaker style, little houses that look a bit like cottages are my favourite. With a nice big front porch to sit outside on. This colourful porch is a favourite of mine and fairy lights should be added everywhere possible. The more fairy lights the better!

Overgrown gardens filled with roses and hydrangeas remind me of Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit, maybe because they’re called English Country Gardens. It gives the place a whimsical feel and since it’s pretty wild there won’t be a lot of gardening work to do! Purple and pink window boxes also add more colour to the house and make it very lush.

I wasn’t aware that I had a very specific door in mind but this is what I keep pinning so this must be the door I like. A brightly painted door to go with the navy exterior and tie in some of the colours in the garden. And it maybe opens up half-way, but wouldn’t it just let in bugs since no one seems to put screens on those types of doors? The details of the house need to be worked out.

A navy blue kitchen to tie in the colour of the exterior and keep the house bright and colourful, with white upper cabinets or open shelves. White subway tile and white or butcher block counters to keep things simple. I haven’t found an eating area or dining room that I love yet but these are close, a few pops of colour with white walls and everything bright.

Some things I know very specifically what I like and others not at all. Living rooms are a good example, I like the white walls with accents from furniture and things to make the style easy to change, simple and personal. For powder rooms, I like round mirrors to contrast the harsh lines of the vanity and the rest of the bathroom and slightly crazy patterned black and white tile, since it’s not a lot of flooring might as well have fun with it.

The whole house appears to be very navy coloured, it’s perfect for bedrooms since it’s a very calm and peaceful colour.

Lots more subway tile! Again lots of colour, fun tile when there’s not a lot needed, and everything else very clean and simple. And clawfoot tubs, of course, since they’re just very cool.

My newest addition to the dream house is a home gym, heated and cooled separately so it could be kept very warm for hot yoga or cold for heavy cardio. And an overgrown backyard with lots of fairy lights!

Follow my home board here! Do you have a realistic dream home? What are some of your favourite home styles?

Goals Of 2018

Happy New Year, everyone! As I had said last year, I LOVE NEW YEARS GOALS! Sometimes they stress me out a bit, but I find it so pleasing when I’ve completed goals, and writing them down helps set the direction for where I want to go.

This year and this year’s motto

I have a lot of goals this year, big and small, and I think it’ll be a bit of a crazy one and definitely different from others, but I’m excited! Every year I choose a one-word motto to basically sum up the goals or overall what I’m going for in the next year. This year is going to be “contrast” or a not one-word motto of “get things done”. Work hard, but take breaks.

2018 goals

I break the goals down into different categories of my life to keep them more organized and simplified. These are a few of my major goals:

School

  • Finish making transcripts for my courses to send to universities.
  • Complete uni application.
  • Get into the school of choice!
  • Finish off all of my high school courses!

Blog

  • Get blog to 1,000 followers!
  • Get blog to make money to help out with uni costs.
  • Post more frequently.

Health and fitness

  • Run a half marathon, if I’m feeling crazy. Or a 10k is much more reasonable.
  • Do more ab and upper body workouts!
  • Try other forms of exercise and sports.
  • More yoga and stretching.

Fun and creativity

  • Work on art more.
  • And photography.
  • Travel if there are opportunities to.
  • Make a reading list and read more.

“Adulting”

  • Get driver’s license.
  • Budget and learn more personal finance.

What are some of your major goals this year? Hope everyone has an amazing 2018!!

Goals Completed 2017

At the very start of this year, I posted some of my 2017 goals, so now that it’s the end of the year it’s time to revisit them and see how far I’ve come!

Last years goals and how I progressed

  • To be less anxious. I’ve often struggled with anxiety so I would like to work on keeping it under control and managing stress.

This has actually improved A LOT! First, I think with just a little bit of age it helps since it seems like anxiety can be a teenager thing. I learnt more about anxiety and how it works which helped on how to overcome it. Journalling, harder workouts, and consciously trying to relax are among some of the things that have helped me.

  • To be kinder to myself. Sometimes I just get a little too critical of myself.

I hope this has improved, I haven’t tried too hard, to be honest, but I think it’s better.

  • Take more risks. I’ve always been afraid of risks but there’s not a lot of fun in not taking any.

I didn’t take any big risks, which is good! But there were times I think I went out of my comfort zone and that’s the main goal!

  • Get school things organized, make a new schedule style, stay motivated, and make it more enjoyable.

Motivation for school has not been too bad this year since it’s my last year of high school I pretty much just want to get everything done! It makes it more enjoyable when you’re more motivated, too.

  • Get things together for university.

Yes!! Definitely have made huge progress with this! I will keep posting about my progress and working towards university as much as I can. You can read about my progress here!

  • Keep pushing myself in my workouts and maybe do a 5k or something like that.
I did not run a 5k but I built up a lot more strength over the year and can now run faster and for longer than before!
Completing goals is always a nice little victory. Let me know goals you’re proud of that you completed and good luck with your new goals!

Big Book of Awesome

I started my Big Book of Awesome in October and it’s been super helpful, more than I could’ve thought it would be! Actually, my mum had made it wayyy before and I didn’t touch it because I thought it was a dumb idea ( sorry mum, I love you ) and I kept forgetting about it.

What is it?

It was originally inspired by The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and some worksheets that my mum had printed off the Internet that went with the book and things he talked about. Now it’s sort of progressed into almost a Bullet Journal or life planner kinda thing. I have a daily journal where I dump my thoughts and write down what happened each day, but it’s definitely not pretty since that’s where I just pour my thoughts out, and I wanted to make a pretty journal like the Bullet ones because those make me really happy so I did that in the BBA.

The BBA currently consists of the first part which is the 7 Habits worksheets still so I can easily go back to the Habits. The next is career, I only have the results of an aptitude test right now but I assume there will be more to add to that. Then it’s the goals and as you’ve probably seen from my previous post I put a lot of value and thought into my goals so that’s the biggest section of the book. It’s where I write down all of my goals and keep track of previous ones and have my major, long-term goals written down. Next is the mission statement section. This is from 7 Habits and it’s basically just setting down your personal morals or what’s important to you and what you’re going to try to always hold yourself to in your life. Here I’ve collected quotes that inspire me and that I like what they’re trying to get across then took out all the common points and wrote down a rough, not too fancy, outline of my mission statement. After that, I have a section of people I admire and who inspire me. I once read, when I was maybe 10, that it’s really important for teens to have good role models but for some reason I thought then that only really famous people could be role models, or something I don’t really know what I thought a role model was, but I decided to learn about people who seemed really successful. Right now I only have Sir Winston Churchill and Cassey Ho from Blogilates but I’ll definitely work on that. Relationships are the subject of the next section, which just has the definition of The Relationship Bank Account from 7 Habits.

Then it’s motivation where I have all the reason why I workout and motivation to workout. Next section is about school and things that I find wrong with the current situation and the plans for the next two years of high school. I always write a monthly to do list then put them in the book once the month is over and I’m now just realizing I could probably throw them out instead LOL. Then things in life that I’m finding are not working so I can set goals to change them because this is the year of change for me. Finally my new and most favourite section – the enjoyable things one, where I write down things to do that are relaxing and make me happy! Yesterday’s post on Hobby Hunting goes into much more detail on this.

How it is helpful to me

I feel like this just keeps my goals and things organized, and makes it me feel like I’ve got my crap together when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I can keep important paperwork there, it reminds me to do things when I look through and see the goals and know what I’m working towards, and it’s fun to make it pretty like a Bullet Journal. It was interesting, too, to see how where I want to be in a year has changed since I wrote it in October, and how my goals and everything is almost constantly changing, and since they’re in the book I can just update them. This is also one of my favourite things to do when I’m really bored because it’s pretty productive and helps with future productivity!
That’s it for now! I hope everyone is having an awesome day 😊

365 Days Of Photos 2017

One of my 2017 goals is to take a photo for every day in the year, just for fun and to make me keep up photography and to help improve my photography skills. I went through Pinterest looking at different monthly photo challenges for prompts on what the pics will be of and these are my 12 favourites that I’ll be using for 2017. All the photos will be posted on my Instagram!
