Clean Skin Makeup Review

I always try to find natural makeup products (usually free of parabens and talc) but it can be hard to find things reasonably priced, that are the right colour and natural. My go-to natural makeup brand is Physician’s Formula but since it’s been winter in Canada FOREVER and I haven’t been outside, most of their skin products are not pale enough for me. So I ventured out to try new products and I’m very happy with what I got!

The products

I find skin makeup quite confusing, do I want powder, BB cream, tinted moisturizer, foundation or just concealer? I decided to try powdered foundation because I had read it’s great for sensitive skin and I like the ability to build it up for more coverage without looking cakey, but having the options of it not being heavy for days when I don’t need a lot of coverage. And I also got a concealer to cover dark circles, pimples or any other blemish.

Powdered Foundation

Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Loose Powder, Translucent Light, 0.49 Ounce

This powdered foundation is honestly magical. You tap a little bit of the powder into the cap and use a big fluffy brush to distribute it all over your face. Then after the first layer, you can add another layer to places where you want extra coverage. With just a little bit of product, it covers so well. It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing makeup at all and it also doesn’t come off while sweating. Both concealer and the foundation have lasted hard workouts and looked better than any other skin product I’ve used. The only downside is that if you apply it and you’re wearing a dark colour it might become a little powdery. But that’s not too bad for the benefits of this product! Before applying, cover your face in moisturizer and wait for it to absorb in, then that way the powder has something to stick to and you get the hydrating of moisturizer.

Concealer

Marcelle Cc Concealer + Corrector, Light To Medium, 3.5g

The concealer I often find is too yellow or orange toned for me but this one is a great fit! The coverage is also very good and it can be added on top of the powdered foundation for maximum coverage and a flawless look. Marcelle products are on the higher end of drugstore but definitely worth it for natural products that are gentle on sensitive skin.

Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick Review

Liquid lipsticks are my favourite because they go on very smoothly and last a very long time. Here are 3 of the brands that I’ve tried

Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick-Prized Peach (065)
I really did not like this one, so much that I threw it out and didn’t take a picture. It did last a while but it got almost crumbly, it flaked off throughout the day. The flakes would smear all over, too, so it was not pleasant.

Rimmel London Provocalips 16-Hour Kiss Proof Lip Color, Just Teasing, 1-Count
These have been some of my favourites for awhile and I’ve had lots of people ask me about them. It comes in 2 parts, one with the colour that is matte and one that’s a gloss to go over the top if you want a shine. I find it lasts longer without the gloss and I like matte lips better so I just use the colour portion. Each colour is very opaque and lasts so long that it won’t need any touching up after eating and having it on all day. The downside is, it’s really hard to get off at the end of the day, but that’s the price you pay for long-lasting colour.

Maybelline New York Super Stay Matte Ink Lip Color, Dreamer, 0.17 fl. Oz.
I just bought this and it is my new favourite! It’s very smooth and doesn’t feel like you’re wearing any lipstick. It lasts so long and doesn’t flake or need touching up. I would highly recommend this. The colours are very bright and you get more product for the price compared to the Rimmel ones where it’s only partially the lipstick.

The cat really enjoyed this photo shoot.

Are there more liquid lipsticks I should try?

I Changed My Hair?!

Changing up hairstyles or colour is a lot of fun. It can be a huge change and make you feel 100x more confident and it makes life a little more exciting by changing up hair. I’ve done purple ends, multicoloured ends, blonde ends and almost ombre, and a few other colours on the ends, but this is the first time I’ve dyed my full hair! It took a lot of YouTube videos and reading about how to DIY your own hair to do these, but definitely worth the research!

Getting to blonde

At the start of 2017, I had the ends of my hair dyed a turquoise that wouldn’t come out, apparently blue toned colours are very long lasting. It took several rounds of bleaching but, eventually, the ends became very white and I kept that for a while as almost an ombre. In the summer I dyed a bit more blonde and decided that I would go fully blonde later on in the fall. The first round of dying all of my hair turned out pretty well, but now I’m changing it to make it even better.

The process and products used

What I’m doing in these steps is taking my yellow-ish platinum blonde to a cooler blonde that will look more natural and re-dying the roots.

I used Argan Oil Powder Lightener from Sally’s Beauty, it doesn’t smell too bad or burn your eyes when it’s in the air so I quite like it, it’s also super strong and lifts colour off nicely. Lightener powder must be mixed with a developer, I used Argan Oil Cream Developer in volume 20. It also doesn’t smell too bad and it goes on very nicely, I just chose 20 because it was in the middle of the volume options but it works really well. I mixed a little bit together and kept adding more powder and cream as I went because if it sits in the bowl for too long it all dries up, then I applied it all over my hair with my hands while wearing rubber gloves. Personally, I find just using my hands works a lot better than the little brushes or combs, you just have to make sure that you’ve massaged the colour in and it is blended nicely.

Waiting for the bleach.

Then it’s waiting time. I’m really bad at keeping track of how long the bleach has been on for, they recommend 30 minutes, but I ended up leaving it for much longer in order to get all of the colour out and the blonde that I was going for. After it had sat for awhile, I washed it all out and let my hair dry naturally for a bit while I ate lunch, then blow dried it until it was completely dry.

At this point, you can just leave it, but that’s when the blonde has yellow tones to it making it look less natural. So I decided to tone it. Toner is a mix of very light purple, blue or pink-ish dye and a little bleach. When you first apply it, it is white then it changes to the colour you wish to tone your hair after it sits. I used Blond Brilliance Lilac Toner, I let it sit for around 45 minutes to an hour then washed it all out and applied a hair mask.

Lilac toner in and waiting for it.

After bleaching your hair it helps so much to use a hair mask to seal in the colour you apply ( or in this case tone ) and help heal the hair again. I used Inebrya Ice Cream Color Mask Tuttifrutti ( I couldn’t find any links to this so they might not make it anymore?? )  and let it sit for 5 minutes then once my hair was dry it was very soft, so I highly recommend this one! And that’s it for dying my hair! It turned out almost grey at first and after washing my hair for the first time after the toner it settled out to a white-blonde.

Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! This is a collab post with one of my bloggy friends Brianna! She has a wonderful lifestyle blog and we’ve been chatting about the post collab and she’s a sweetheart so please go check out her blog, as well!

Valentine’s Day

It doesn’t just have to be about romantic love! It’s a day to celebrate that love exists, that you love your friends, family, pets, hobbies, all things in your life. February can be such a dull month, it sort of feels like winter has been lasting forever and everything seems boring and the same ( It makes me think of this episode of Arthur ) so it’s great to have something different and a little celebration.

Self-love

Self-love is so important and since this is a day of love then why not celebrate self-love and “treat yo self”?!

img_9030

This weekend a couple of friends and I went to Sephora and I decided to get myself something since I never had gotten anything at Sephora and I love makeup. Plus the bag is so cute! I’m like one of those babies who loves the package more than the actual thing that came in it! I got this Too Faced mascara and honestly, it wasn’t that great for all the hype. Usually, I use Maybelline Pumped Up mascara and I like it quite a bit more than the Too Faced one. Too Faced flaked off by the end of the day, but it gave a nice soft finish on my lashes and the volume was good. But, I prefer the Maybelline one.

Today I did sparkly pinkish eyeshadow and great big false eyelashes. There’s nowhere I have to go today so I can go as crazy as I want, with still keeping it pretty natural. I have a small false eyelash obsession, they’re so pleasing to me LOL, so anytime I can wear them I will. And, of course, glitter just makes me happy.

I don’t know how people on Instagram can take good eye makeup pictures??? Tell me your secrets Beauty Gurus.

I’m also going to do some focusing on my mental health and nutrition, read about that and try to make a good plan to stay on top of those things today!

A little self-love today

Some things you can do to be nice to yourself today.

  • Make your favourite meal. I had curry yesterday!
  • Take a little money and buy something you’ve been wanting. Or
  • Set a small budget and go shopping then get something that pleases you.
  • Go outside and find something beautiful, admire the world and get some fresh air.
  • Make a playlist of some of your favourite songs and listen to it, especially if they’re on self-love like Can’t Get Enough Of Myself, one of my faves.
  • Have a nice warm drink of your choice and watch your favourite TV show.
  • Take a warm bath. STORY TIME. Last time I had a bath I made it wayyy too hot and ended up sweating more than I do during a hard workout and finally decided that I should just get out.
  • Write in a journal.
  • Write down things you’re thankful for.
  • Wear something that makes you feel good!

One small thing that makes you feel good!

Family and friend love

When I was little I used to make Valentines by cutting out construction paper in a heart shape and trying to write “I love you” on it, but once you hit about 14 the charm of that seems to wear off. My cut and paste skills couldn’t keep up with my age. So instead I made my family heart-shaped brownies with 2 of my favourite recipes. Whatever Floats Your Boat brownies, which are tradition, chewy and delicious brownies, then Black Bean brownies. Everyone seems to be a bit afraid of the black bean brownies, but they are actually really good and super fudgy!

Spread the love

Spread it like butter on toast. That sounds odd, but also really delicious and now I want toast.

  • Send funny Valentines. I’ve been sending so many of these. Sorry people I’ve sent these to! 2e4ef2fa0cc9573cff7918c92c6ed6cc
  • Call family members.
  • And friends!
  • Make heart-shaped baked goods or pizza and give them to your friends.
  • Have a cookie decorating get together.
  • Drop little packages of cookies off at neighbours.
  • Leave positive messages in random places to brighten people’s day.

I should actually do some of these things….. Oops.

I hope everyone has a great day and thank you so much for the love on my blog!!
